October Reflections
As October comes to a close, we reflect on an inspiring month with our October Colony 2024 screenwriters: Miida Chu, Andre Muir, Missy Hernandez, and Joel Sinensky. Nestled in the quiet farmhouse on Almanack Pond Road, these four gifted writers embraced the opportunity to go deep—not only into their projects but into a space of creative renewal, exploration, and support.
This month has been a journey in more ways than one. From our initial gatherings to one-on-one mentor sessions, late-night conversations, and of course films in the barn, Miida, Andre, Missy, and Joel have shared their talents and their unique visions with one another, creating an environment where ideas could evolve and flourish. As each writer explored the threads of their stories, we saw transformations both big and small; there were breakthroughs, subtle shifts, and bold leaps in storytelling and personal expression.
As always, we owe immense gratitude and respect to our mentors: Bryce Kass, Mynette Louie, Stella Meghie, and Tracey Scott Wilson, a mix of creative professionals who donated their time to support emerging storytellers for the screen. This year we are delighted to share that two of our mentors, Stella and Bryce, are Almanack alumni.
Our aim with the October Colony was not just to support a single project but to invest in the people behind the pages. Each of these writers came with a distinct voice, but it was their willingness to dig deep, to be vulnerable, and to fully immerse themselves in the collaborative process that brought the experience to new levels. We are excited to watch their continued growth and to see these stories come to life.
To Miida, Andre, Missy, and Joel, thank you for sharing this journey with us. You’ve inspired us, and we look forward to seeing where your paths lead next. Stay tuned, Almanack community—there’s so much more to come.
